FORESTER GRAVES RESIGNATION 18 There can be no doubting the fact I that the forestry service has suffered THERE IS ONE COMFORT a severe loss in the resignation of ’ THAT’S IMMENSE - Chief Forester Graves. The forester' was more than just an official: he was a student of the conditions with which he had to deal, and he knew the west as few who claim the east as their home can know it. He of ten visited the forest districts, and he appreciated the difficulties that surrounded the homesteaders and the stockmen and the raiw hers whose operations were in the vicinity of or within the forests. With Graves goes his first assistant, so it may be presumed that the system may not particularly appeal to the administra tion. and a change in policy in the conduct of the forestry deiiartment I may fairly be anticipated. Forester Graves on two occasions has visited Grants Pass and on each occasion went into detail concerning the problems here, especially regard- Ing the development of the Josephine caves, thus indicting the dose per sonal attention which he gave all matters within his jurisdiction. We are sorry to see Air. Graves retiring from the important position. A SANITARY RESIDENCE’ We admit that we're aspir ing.
