Wreck Delay Train

hours by a freight wreck at Merlin
this morning. A Paririo Fruit En
press car jumped the track and lost
a truck. The wrecker rrom Ashland
cleared the track.

C. D. Thompson and George Cof
fenberry returned Sunday from a
trip to Almeda, where they spent a
few hours fishing. They report fair
success, and besides catching several
steelheads. Mr. Thompson hooked a
"blueback," a' fish that Is seldom
taken in the 'Rogue. It weighed
about ZVx pounds.

is a small model of a 1'. S. bombing
plane made by Earl Allen. The work
shows a faithful conformity In all
details. Much of the metal work.
Including the gun mounted on the
deck. Is hand made, as well as the
bearings. Young Allen has been an
invalid for some years but takes
great delight in everything mechani
cal and spends many hours In mak
ing various mechanical articles.

George S. Barton, who has lately
spent some time In Jackson county,
brought to this city some samples or
asphaltiim from the Jackson county
field, that convinces him that thee
Is oil In that locality. There Is
so much oil In the sample that
they will burn when held in the
flame of a match. Mr. Barton states
that there is an oil company ijeln
formed at .Medford, but the samples
of tsplmltum in bis possession nre
from another portion of the oil-bearing
territory. Thus far. Colonel
Mundy, of Medford, Is the only per
son boring for oil In that vicinity.
