The section foremen ot the Ash
land division are holding a meeting
this afternoon In the Chamber of
Commerce rooms. It is a "safety
first' meeting, and the period from
October 18th to October 21st will be
observed as a "No accident week."
Besides 21 section foremen, Head
master J. O. Johnson and two street
crossing flagmen are present.

who a short time 'ago suffered a
stroke of paralysis, has so far re
covered that she is able to travel and
was a southbound passenger this
morning enroute to Los Angeles for
the winter. She was accompanied
by her daughters, Mrs. C. E. Rose, of
Ixs Angeles, .Mrs. Emma Springer
of San Francisco, and Mrs. K. E.
Dickson of Red Bluff, who have been
at Glendale for a time. They will
stop off at Red Bluff for a few days.

Miss Benedict arrived last night
from Eugene by automobile, having
left Eugene at 11 a. m. and reaching
this -city at 9 p. m., with stops at
Cottage Grove and Roseburs aggre
gating more than an hour. They
were accompanied as far as 'Rose
burg by Z. X: Agee of that city. Miss
Benedict spent several days' tn Eu

shipped from Grants Pass and the
growers are continuing to make
shipments. One carload of this

the death ot Wlllard Chase, which
occurred at Montpeller. VI.. Friday,
October 10. The funeral will be held
on Monduy. Mr. Chase was a resl-1
dent of this city from 1911 to 1917
and having a tract on East A street.
After the djath of Mrs. Chase In
this city Mr. Chase returned to his
old home In Vermont.

been a resident of Grants Pass only
about three months but has made
many friends here. The groom, who
Is a writer and Is known as the
"Poet of Calapooyas," was an early
resident of this city, leaving, here
about 15 years ago. They will make
their home at Brownsville.
