POPPLETON 71 Front St. Portland. Ore. New York. July IT. IS 19. ; Mrs. W. 11. Pollock, Grants Pass, Ore. Mrs. dour Mrs. Pollock: You are ' no doubt overjoyed at having your son, William, back home s:ifr and sound after doing his share in the 'struggle through whkh we have just passed. It is with the sroutest ploasitre that I take it upon myself to write 'yon Uittoo few linos to show my ap , prociation of the work that William did at the front. I feci that I iui qualified to do this as William had charge of my plane at the front. While there I came in very close contact with him and I can truth fully say that he is one of the clean est men. morally, that I have ever met. He was always ready to do his work and more too. In spite of re peated reverses and disappointments he always came back with a smile and old "Eighteen" would make one more patrol. The machine we had to work with was probably the ioorest in the squadron, but,' thanks to William and his helper, Paul Osborne, we managed to do remarkably well. Wil liam is a first class mechanic and rigger and should give a good ac count of himself in any place as a mechanic. On the whole it was an Inspiration to have such a' man working on my plane. Every time I went on a pa trol I tried to do my best in order to prove myself worthy of the faith he and Osborne had In me. I sln "erely hope that William -will make as great a success of life as he did of his paj-t in the army, and I most heartily congratulate you on having such a fine son. Respectfully. A. M.
