WAR The circus performers are drifting back, one by one, from the front, and resuming, their place with the var ious shows as they start out on their summer tours. Somehow, among all the men who entered their country's service, these chaps, at whose antics In the saw- dust ring or on flying trapeze thou-' sands have rocked with mirth or held their breath in suspense, have come for little mention. Tet over 300 of them entered the service, and their record is as stirring and gal lant as their most ardent little boy admirer would believe. ' There are gold stars in the circus flags. There are crippled and gassed and wounded circus men lovingly tended at winter quarters, to bear testimony that our fun-makers were among our bravest. "Jerry" Clayton, a clown beloved by children all over the , United States, sleeps under French sod. Clarence Richards, whose trained an imals were the wonder of all who saw them, was wounded thirteen times in his efforts to subdue the wild German. Everybody loves a circus; but re membering their feats In the arena of war, we shall look upon the per t formers now with new and even kindlier eyes. TOO MUCH WOOL A few years ago -Montana and Alaska were advertising their "wild end woolly exhibitions" on Fourth of July and other famous occasions. The trick worked for a while and drew crowds, but finally the people awoke to the fact that being "wild and woolly" did notattract the right kind of settlers. Now they are ad' Tertlslng extensively and telling the country at large that they are not woolly and that the bad man with Ills two big guns is gone. It never pays to get too "woolly" it you want to attract. thrifty settlers. There may be bealth in a garden spade, but not as much thrill as In fly rod. Judging from today's press dls patches, President Wilsob Is bound to have a league -of nations whether we have peace or not. , NOTICE OF BOND REDEMPTION" Notice Is hereby given to owners of and holders of municipal city lm provement (bonds that at the semi-an nual Interest payment period on the 1st day of May, 1919 the city of Grants Pass, Josephine county, Ore on, will redeem the following out standing city improvement bonds viz:" Bonds numlbered 64, 65, 66 and (7 of Sixth street improvement, said .bonds were isued and dated the 1st day of May, 1910. CORNELL Bactcadie is perhaps the most common ailment from which women suiter. Rarely do yon find anybody free from it. Some, times the cause is obscurd but Dr. Pierce, of Buffalo, N. Yn a high medical authority, says the cause is very often a form of catarrh that settles in the delicate mem branes of the feminine organs. When these organs are inflamed, the first symp tom is backache, accompanied by bearing- own sensations, weakness, unhealthy dis - t.i fMMunilnnittS frta ivf III rAtiVwlsi tVlt ' rrK, rTJl, condition. Any woman in this condition is to be pitied, but pity does not cure. The trouble calls for Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription, which is a separate and dis tinct medicine for women. It is made oi roots and herbs put up without alcohol or opiate of any kind, for Dr. Pierce uses nothing else in his prescription. Favorite Proscription is a natural remedy for wo men, for the vegetable growths of which it b made seem to have been intended by Nature for that Tory purpose.- Thousand of girls and women, young and old, have taken it, and thousands have written grateful letters to Dr. Pierce saying it made them well. In taking Favorite Pre seription, ft b reassuring to know that it goes straight to the cause of th trouble. There is but one way to overcome sickness, and that is to overcome the cause. That is precisely what Favorite Prescription is intended to do. Send 10c for trial pkg. of Tablets, Address Invalids' Hotel, Buffalo, N.
