A DEAF EAR
Who are the Armenians are they
human? The missionaries tell us
that they are and that thousands of
them are Christians. Further, com
petent authorities tell us that the
Armenians are a peace-loving, inof
fensive people who love their homes.
This granted, why are the Turks per
mitted to continue murdering them?
Here to a dispatch dated April 19,
in regard to the conditions in the
Near East:
"From the one town of Aintab,
80,000 Armenians were driven Into
the desert to die, and now there
are, sofar as we can learn, only
4,000 or 5,000 alive. If this pro
portion holds true throughout, then
nearly 850,000 men, women and chil
dren perished in that desert.
Throughout Asia Minor, beyond the
points to which the British and
French troops have advanced, the
Armenians are still being persecut
ed by the Turks. In one way or an
other, by individuals and by groups
Armenians are being killed. I know
of one case where 100 Armenians
were slaughtered, and another where
40 were shot down all of this since
the armistice was signed."
America went to war in the name
of humanity shall we finish the
Job? The Turks were defeated, but
the alfies, apparently, have discon
tinued their watch over them and
have turned a deaf ear to the cries
of the helpless who are being rip
ped with saber, shot and bayonet by
the cold-blooded Turks iwho are al
lowed to carry out their relentless
persecution, uninterrupted.
If America Is fighting for the
safety of humanity It would seem
that the president la sending the
Yanks home too soon.' There is at
little Job that needs quick action and
the allied troops and the Yanks1
should not establish permanent camp'
until the last military tooth is Jerk
ed from the foul Jaws of the Turk.
"Will Lloyd George and the presi
dent explain why they look with
complacency upon these Turkish
atrocities? ' The people would like
to know. There should be a 15th
"point" to cover the hellish situation
being maintained toy the Moslems.
In the meantime, Secretaries Dan
iels and Baker are seeing Paris and
the "Big Four" are talking.

crowd heard the colonel speak at the
high sohool building.
The annual senior trip to Table
Rock was taken Saturday by the
class of 119, the members going
In cars and taking a plentiful supply
of eatables with them. After lunch
the ascent to the top of the moun

view. Later the crowd went on to
Ashland and a picnic lunch was eat

Tuesday morning the asscmhlv
