By SUPREME COURT Salem, Ore., Mar. 25. The su preme court has reversed Judge Cal kins, of Jackson county, in the case of the state vs. Huston Cox, the ne gro porter at the Medford hotel and remanded the case to a trial court. This is one of the most important of prohibition cases. Cox carried liquor from the train to the hotel in a suitcase with other baggage. He -was convicted for hav ing liquor in his .possession. In dis senting, the opinion of Justice Bur nett holds that the prohibition law is emasculated by a majority. The decision was written by Justice Jones. Ely, field worker for the Associated Industries of Oregon, gave a luncheon to 16 prominent women of Grants Pass Monday at the Hotel Oxford. Mrs. Ely gave a' talk on why the men and women of Oregon should buy everything man ufactured" in Oregon, If prrce and quality were equal. She said 1t was not a narrow movement, as what built up Oregon would build np the wliole coast. Too much money is being sent east to buy goods that are nianufaftured right here at home. Mrs. Ely read a letter from A. G. Clarke, manager of the Associated Industries of Oregon, in, which he told what women could do to build up their own community. An Associated Industry club wan formed at the meeting, Mrs. X. F. Macduff being elected president and 'Mrs. J. E. Hair secretary. Mrs. Macduff is to sele't her comm!tte; from the ladies -who were in at tendance. The club will meet once a month and will discuss what will benefit Grants Pass first, then the county, then the state. It is hoped that every women In the community will Join this club, I as it means much, not only to South ern Oregon, but to the whole state. The ladles present were: Mes darnes Moss, Clarke, Ma'duff. Canby, Nlles,' Riddle, Hair, Harris, Tbomp- Ison, Bramwell, Sabin, Baker, Lund Iburg, Clevenger and Htlmer and ! Miss Benedict. Mrs. Ely had many nice things to say of Grants Pass women and com plimented the Oxford management on the splendid and well-served lunch.
