Lift the economic blockade from Russia is the appeal which Alexan- er Borkonhelm of Moscow, vlce president and general manager of i the All-Russian central union of consumers' societies. Is making In England and which ho intends to make soon In the United States. That is tho only way, In Mr. Bor- kenhelm's opinion, to cure Russia s trouble. Mr. Berkenhelm left Moscow, the headquarter of his organization, In December. He confirms reports of the famine conditions prevailing In the cities of Northern Russia. The situation In Petrograd Is particular ly bad, he says. Mr. Berkenhelm Intends to visit New York, Washington, Chicago and San Francisco. The principal object of his trip to America Is to develop trade relation between the United States and Russia,' and to establish offices on the eastern and western seaboards. From the eastern coast he plans to ship large consignments of American products to tho Block Sea districts of Russia, and from the Parlflc const to Siberia. Heretofore, the organization has had only a few agents In the United States. The All-Russian central nnlon of consumers' societies Is, Mr. Berken helm says, the directing head of var ious cooperative associations. ' It embraces 450 unions made up of 35,000 societies with an individual membership of 12.000.000 heads of families. Counting five persons to the family, It Is reckoned that the central organization Is supplying the necessaries of life to some CO.jOO,- 00 Q people In all parts of the empire. "On our organization," Mr. Ber kenhelm told a representative of the Associated Press, "devolves the task of keeping Russia alive. We believe that eventually our work wM be the means of restoring and regenerating Russia. "In America I intend to make a study of the means of opening up to Russia the resources of your great country through trado. Our chief aim now Is to. remove trade restric tions. The Black Sea blockade Is still effective. No formal blockade exists with regard to Siberia, hut the system of . permits In force greatly hampers commerce." 4 AT THE MOVIES i 44444444444 "Hearts of the World," D. W. Griffith's supreme achievement Is a love story though many of the opt sodeS were taken In France on the immediate battlefields. Noyon and Ham, scenes of terrific fighting, were used 'by the Griffith forces as background for many won derfully sweet love j scenes. The front line trenches around Noyon and Ham, then but - eight miles in the rear, are seen in the great pro duction. The quiet winding main atreet of Noyon, that peaceful village In Plc ardy -where Griffith starts 'his ro mance 1b now battered and deserted. But when Griffith and Ills stare, Ro bert Harron. Dorothy Glsh and Lil lian Glsh, first arrived it had sur vived two tides of Huns; one going toward Parts, and the other going toward Berlin. Griffith came after the receding tide.- The Germans had not anticipated It and seemed D Saturday, March The to have prepared to stay all winter and summer. Many scenes were made at Com pel gne, France, toward Paris from N'oyon, and some on the British line. All, however, were made un der the auspices of the British' war office. TiEl "Hearts of the World" is an nounced for exhibition at the Joy Theater commencing Friday. YANKS RECEIVE BIG GUN T Coblenx, Mar. 19.
