The Josephine County bank elect
ed its officers and directors on Tues
day, January 10th. At this meeting
the oashior submitted his annual re
port, which showed the deposits and
resources on December SI, 19 IS, as
being the largest since the organiza
tion of the bank.
At this stockholders' meeting the
following stockholders were elected
as directors: J. L. Calvert, Stanton
Rowell, Sam H. Baker, S. Lough
ridge. Don Wilson, A. L. Edgerton
and Charles Burkhalter.
At the directors' meeting the fol
lowing were elected as officers:. J.
L. Calvert, president; Stanton Row
ell, Ttce president; Sam H. Baker,
cashier: A.- K. Cass, assistant cashier.

The' funeral services of Marvin
Washington McBrlde will be held at
Hall's chapel Sunday, January 12,
at 2 o'clock p. m. Interment will
take place in the Odd Fellow ceme
tery.
Marvin McBrlde was born at
Wlthville, Va.. August 31. 1902, and
came to Grants Pass with his par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. McBride.
when four years of age. He attend
ed school here, later going through
the Southern Pacific telegraphic
school at San Francisco, then taking
a position as telegraph operator
with the Southern Pacific company
on the Salt Lake division. He was
operator at Moore, Nevada, when
taken in with Influenza, which de
veloped Into pneumonia, causing his
death on January 7, 1919.
Besides his parents, the deceased
leaves one brother, Wallace Steve
McBrlde, who resides with his par
ents in this city.

Unpalatablt Ship "Breed."
In grandfather's day a ship took on
her supply of bread for a voyage in
casks before leaving home. This supply
had to last until the end of the voyage,
though that might be a year or two.
The bread was in the form of hard
biscuit It kept fairly wall when dry,

The final count on the Red Cross
Christmas roll call has Just been
Completed tor this county and totals
2,229 members with $2,248. This
Is a little better than 120 per cent
of the subscriptions taken In the
drive last year. Considering the
number of removals that the county
has suffered In tho past eight or ton
months this Is a record of which Jo
sephine county can be Justly proud.
The splendid success that has
marked this effort has not been duo
to the work of any one person or
committee, but because, from begin
ning to close each did his or her
part with a full feeling of responsi
bility, no tiiat to mentton-those who
proved splendidly capable would be
to name the whole personnel of
workers, solicitors, team captains,
and executive committee. Nor was
the liberality of tho Daily Courier In
giving Us space unreservedly to pub
licity work a small part In the suc
cess of the drive. Furthermore the
willing response ot those solicited
made the work a dollght throughout.
There seems to be a full under
standing In the mluds of the people
ot this county that the Red Cross
has been a faithful steward ot tho
resources that have been placed at
Its disposal and that Its work as an
organisation Is not completed until
thore Is no more a need for deeds
of mercy to be done.
