This 1st a call for universal membership, and If Oregon and Josephine county are to go over the top, everyone must pre pare themselves to renew member ship In this great agency for the relief of the suffering world. Today when the battlements of brute force have crumbled, the Red Cross looks forward to a greater need and a greater labor, and asks tor a new and even more earnest ans wer to Its Roll Call. Every person In our citizenship must add voice to the message of faith and good will. Universal response to this Christ mas Roll Call means universal, sup port and continuation of the vast functions which the Red Cross has performed in the relief of suffering and in the aid of ultimate victory. Mr. Webber says that there are evidences of much mining activity In the Grave Creek district the coming year and that they are anxious to have the road matter settled as they wish to make Grants Pass their permanent head quarters. Admiral Badger, of the general board of the navy, appearing before the house naval committee, urged sufficient ap propriations to provide a navy for the United States by 1925 as large as that of any other country. The Admiral stated that 150 Ger man and seven Austrian submarines had been sunk in the war prior to August. The Germans had 'built 331 submarines and the Austrians had only 35.
