' Htuton Withdraws County Clerk E. U Coburn yes- terday received a letter from 8. B. Huston, asking that his name be taken off the ballot as a candidate for U. S. senator. His reasons given are that his health would not per mit him to make a strenuous cam paign if nominated, and that the amount of money required is too great to put Into a campaign at this time. The real reason for his with drawal, however, Is to throw his support to some other candidate for the republican nomination. Kicliange Farm for Stock llanch Mr. and Mrs. Louis Lucke and two children left Wednesday night for Eugene where they will visit rel atives and will later probably go to Harney county. Mr. Lucke, who has been a resident of Josephine county for a number of years, has traded his 40 acre farm a few miles down the river, to W. H. Richards, of Harney county, for a 320-acre stock and grain farm. Mr. Richards and family and several other eastern Oregon families expect to come to Josephine county later In the sea son. FAVORED BY ENGINEER Salem, May 2. State Engineer John H. Lewis said today that the proposed $60,000 bond Issue of the Gold Hill Irrigation project ' will probably be approved by the irriga tion securities commission. The assessed valuation is in excess of the proposed bond issue and is not over sixty per cent of market value. State Engineer Lewis and State Superintendent of Banks Will Ben nett, were taken over the Grants Pass and Gold Hill irrigation pro jects yesterday by John Dubuis, en gineer for the projects. They re turned to the city late and left town on the 7 o'clock train. Mr. Dubois left early this morning for Gold Hill where he picked up G. B. At din, president of the Gold Hill pro ject, and the two went on to Jack sonville to confer with the Jackson county court. It has been Impossible to get fur ther' Information as to the results of the trip, but the above dispatch from Salem Indicates that the mem bers of the state board were fa vorably impressed with the Gold Hill project, which will soon let con tracts for the construction of the ditch.
