HOW TO PAY YOUR INCOME TAX
Pay your income tax. if possible,
by check, money order, or draft.
This is the -urgent request of the
bureau of internal revenue.
More than (.000,000 persons this
year will pay an Income tax. The
total to be collected under the war
revenue act of October 3, 1917, in
Individual Income taxes alone Is
$66,000,000. The vast majority of
these payments will be small
amounts. If paid as requested it
will avoid the necessity for the Issu
ance of a receipt, and save much time
and labor.
Taxes paid to deputies who are
visiting every county In the United
States to assist taxpayers In making
out 'heir returns are sent to the col
lector of internal revenue of the dis
trict in which the taxes are collect
ed. Checks, money orders, or drafts
can be handled without difficulty.
Cash has to be sent by registered
mall or by insured express.
In the conduct of the war Uncle
Sam Is beset with many difficulties.

able tasks less difficult by paying
your income tax promptly, and by

sphere will subscribe to a new .Mon- j
roe doctrine, embracing the cardinal
principles already established and
adding additional tenets, according
to a statement here tonight by Dr.
Alvares, secretary general of the
permanent member of the court of
institute of International Law and
arbitration at The Hague.
The new principles, Dr. Alvares
says, will prevent the cessation of
any territory In the western hemi
sphere as a war indemnity to any
European power and will prevent the
acquisition of such territory by any
curopean power for any purpose by
any method. Dr. Alvares said the
new doctrine was based on the Inter
pretation of President Wilson's war
