Hum Million Men, Tills County
I'robulily Kxrmpt
A lottur received ttf the loai reg
istration board from the adjutant
general's office, state that each
county will receive credit Jo ' the
voluuteer enlistments in tnu army
since June 30 last, In filling- the next
army quota.
The last draft was for an armr of
675,000 men. The quota of Orexon,
before any deductions' for enlist
ment had been made, waa 7,374.
On a population baala, the cross
quota of Josephine county waa 89.
Aa the connty bad already furnished
mote than that number of men by
enlistments in the army prior to that
time, thla county waa not called up
on for any In the draft.
The queatlon of what the county
will be called upon to do when the
next draft comes, will depend, of
course, upon the size of the army to
he raised. , It Is probable, however,
(but If the call Is for 1.000,000 men
or less, this county will attain hare
sent its full quota by volunteer en
listments before the time of , the
second draft. The number of enlist
ments at the local recruiting office
since June 30, ha been 92. This
Is about equal to the county's quota
on a draft of a million men.

taxea and bond lasues already
thorlxed in order to make estimated
receipts for the fiscal year ending

If this deficit Is met by a new laaue

433.8S0.
For the next fiscal year, ending
Jane SO, 1919, the estimated excess)
of disbursement over receipt! la
$7.6J7,97S,980.
Huge war expenses and loans to
America's allies at the rate of a half
billion dollars a month have made
these estimates many time larger
than any ever presented In a secre
tary of the treasury's annnal report.
Of the $ 12,31 (,000,000 estimated

portion ia about, the same for the
fiscal year ending in 1919.
Total estimated receipts for the
current fiscal year are $12,580. 732,

and war savings certificates; ordi
nary receipts are $3,886,000,000,
largely from war taxes; and the Pan

Ordinary disbursements are esti

allies In the year at $,1 15,000,000;
public debt disbursements at $321,
000.000; and Panama canal expenses
$23,693,000; making total estimated
disbursements $18,775,919,955.
In order to allow for a balance In
the general fund of about $500,000,
000 next June 30, congress muust
authorise raising of about $5,640,
