Accordiug to local mining men, this purchase means the opening up of one of the largest manganese dis tricts In the country. He moved from New York to Kansas with his wife and two chil dren in July 1873. and from Kansas to Grants Pass In April 1903. He Is survived by Ave children, and 13 grandchildren. His children are H. ft. Holt, of Woodward. Okla.. S N. Holt of Santa Monica, Cal.. Mrs. Lucy Armstrong, of Manhaltan, Nev., Mrs. Katie Pyle of Grants Pass, and Mrs. Jessie Shade of Grants Pass. The funeral will be held at An drew Shade's residence. 225 West H street, Tuesday at 10 a. m. Inter ment at the Granite Hill cemetery. The lire originated ou Ihe second floor, probably from defective wir ing or defective chimney, and only the prompt work of Ihe department saved any of the building. The properly Is owned by W. "M. Hair of Kugene, who with Mrs. Ilnlr. have spent several days In the city. They were at the station expecting to leave for Eugene when Ihe alarm was sounded. They deferred their return home until Tuesday.
