ONES a Read Stuow oi ALEXANBER Merit m& Glass "Alexander and company" will be the attraction at the Opera House for one day, April the 7 th. - - For the benefit of those who have not heard of Alexander on the coast where he last year scored the great est triumph ever scored by any road attraction In this part of the United States, let it be stated that Alexander is the only recognised magician in the American theatre today.. Since the passing of the Great Thruston there has been only one man who has held the distinction ot being the foremost exponent of the black art, crystal reading and Simla Seance. One year ago Alexander played tor four weeks In the Helig theatre Port land. Alhambra theatre Seattle and the Auditorium theatre Spokane. This year he has been persuaded to break the jump to the larger cities of the north by playing a split week in Medford and Eugene. - Alexander has spent most of his life la the Orient where he has studied the black art among the an cient Hindu and Arab. He has mas tered all the magic as offered by the one peer of magicians, Herman the Great and the Great Thruston. While these King regents of their age were heralded as the greatest brain marvels In the world, Alexan der the peer ot magicians, and White Mathama ot the twentieth century, offers an attraction so Intlrely new and unusual albeit mystifying and awe-inspiring that the most learned professors and business geniuses ot the day hare pronounced this exhi bition of the uncanny an occult phe nomena. The areater Part ot the last half of the show la the Simla Seance and in this Seance. Alexander presents himself as he is known and worship ed in the east, the White Mathama, (crystal seer). He answers ques tions, written and seated, gives the name of the writer and tells them more than they themseKes know about their lives and many things that they thought no living man or woman could know. The performance la " further en hanced by oriental girls who offer the dances of the Orient and the dances of the religious rites of Asia Minor. This novelty Is presented m the Oriental stage setting Interpreted from the original settings In the pal ace ot black art In Bombay. The attraction Is the highest class attraction of its kind that has ever been offered In theatre in the United States, THE SIMLA SEANCE Alexander is the originator of the Simla Seance, a performance that is the most mystifying and awe-inspiring that has ever been offered on an American stage. The most learned men in the country have pronounced this feature an occult phenomenon. THE MAN WHO KNOWS Just what Alexander, billed as the man who knows, does know regarding the intimate life and affairs of the general public, can be realized when the statement is made and statistics shown that night after night dur ing his performance in the larger cities where he plays f6rv weeks at a time,1 the same people come back again and again to witness the performance and ask questions pertaining to their personal affairs. k 4 A cy " ;. X Further enhancing the perform ance of Alexander at Ibe Opera house tor Saturday. April Tth, Is the artistic and oriental dancing of Dell iMartel, queen of lionitay and her Jjoiipe of oriental danc ers. ' The Alexsnder attraction Is something far out of the ordinary In the line of magic and black art exhibition. Aa this attraction haa never before been secured for exhibition in Grants Hiss a little advance matter on this attraction Is necessary. Alexander played an engage ment on the Pacific coast last year securing such a triumph In the Hell theatre of Portland and Al hambra theatre. of Seattle that these cities have booked Alexsn der for a month's engagement in each theatre for a return engage ment this year. , Alexander comes to the open house direct from the MarDon ough theatre In Oakland where he has played a two weeks' en gsgement and the Clunle theatre of Sacramento where the attrac tion played for one week to ra pacity houses. The performance is divided In to two parts. The first part being a series ot the moat mystifying and astounding feats of msglr ever presented uKn an American stage. The second part of the perform ance st led the Simla Seance la without question the moat marve lous and awe-lnsplring act that has ever been conceived for Ibe stage. Any person who doea not leave the theaVre after a perform ance of Alexander thoroughly mystiried and puxaled surely Is gilt edged pessimist and skeptic. J'-',,' i ' Portland, April 4. Other ma chines also went Into the ditch. In the river wards, where fights culmin ated In the murder of a Grogan worker, Independent democrats elect ed their, candidate. . Bloodshed and arrests were common occurrences along the levee throughout the day. Today Is a gala day for the demo crats. Two years ago Thompson was elected as mayor by 147,000 plural ity and the republicans carried Into office 23 aldermen. Yesterday's re sults Indicate a complete reversal.
