SAIL FOR EUROPE
New York. Feb. 21. The first Am
erican line steamship to leave this
port since the German submarine
warning was Issued the Mongolia
today Is past Sandy Hook and on her
way to Europe. She was followed
closely by the American freighter Al
gonquin. Both are bound for london
and are the first American vessels
to sail from here for a British port
In three weeks.
Officials of the American line were
reticent over the sailing of the Mon
golia, refusing even after she had
been seen to pass out of the harbor
to admit her sailing. She is a vessel
of 13,639 tons and Is an out-and-out
American vessel, having been built
in this country and never having
flown any flag except the American.
No attempt was made to disguise her.
She Is painted In regular colors with
her name and registry painted on
her sides in huge letters.
The captain of the Mongolia is Kd
ward Rice, an American.
All sailings of pasenger vessels have
been cancelled by the American line.
Shippers have been notified to take
freight out of the hold of the St.
Louis, where it has been lying since
February 3, when her sailing was
postponed.
The Philadelphia is expected to
take her place alongside the St. Louis,
Nw York and St. Paul when ho ar
rives here tomorrow from Liverpool.
Speculation today as to the "roh
alhle cause of the cancellation of Am
erican line sailings, was along two
different lines. One was that it
might mean the final decision of the
government not to aid In arming
ships flying the 'American flag. The
other was that the present interna
tional crisis had caused the govern
ment to notify the ships' owners Oat

London, Feb. 21. England recog

bad, but not equal to the "extrav

the "ruthlessnees" was given full

Sir Edward Carson, making his
first speech as first lord of the ad
miralty, voiced these beliefs today
In the house of commons. He riled
figures which showed comparative
losses for December, January and to
February 18, and asserted there hart
been forty different fights with sub
marines since February 1. The ad
miralty head, however, declined to

Then purchase a lump of ammonia
from a drug store and dissolve It In
one plut of boiling water. Wltb an

Hang the suit tip to dry In the sliude.
When pressing the garment wet It with
hot (not boiling) water Instcud of cold.
Lay the cloth ou the suit and press
with a hot Iron until dry. Then wet
the cloth agalu and Iron lightly, but not
enough to dry the. cloth. It Is this lat
