Building New Grange Hall
E. D. Thompson, of Evans Creek,
has "been In the city the past few days
on business connected with the con
struction of the new grange ball to
be "built by Enterprise grange snd of
the Fourth of July celebration. Work
has been commenced upon the grange
hall, and It will be ready for dedica
tion with a dance on the occasion of
the celebration. The hall will be

Sainton Run Is Light
The fishermen are having very poor
success In taking salmon with drift
nets the past tew nights, either no
run having recently entered the river
or the fishermen at the mouth . get

Monday nights the boats averaged
less than 100 pounas each. Fish

the Golden Drift dam Is pretty good.

For Child Welfare
The attention of parents particu
larly, and the public generally. Is
called to the comprehensive exhibits
and literature that will be placed at
the disposal of Grants Pass citizens
on Friday of this week, and will re
main In the city for several days.
This exhibit, which will be installed
in the Commercial club rooms, Is
furnished by the Oregon Child Wel
fare commission, of which Mrs.
Robert H. Tate, of Portland, is the
president, and It should attract the
attention of every citizen who Is in
terested In the conservation of child
life. The commission has In view the
study ot conditions affecting child
hood and the passage of such legis
lation as will safeguard both the phy
sical and moral welfare of the child,

Water In North Hide DUt-li
The north side ditch Is uow filled
with water, and the moisture Is being
distributed to the crops under It. The
pumps were started Saturday, and by
Sunday .evening the canal was filled
as far down as the city. It Is said
that the rebuilding ot the ditch has
put It In first class condition and U
carries water much more freely than
heretofore. A crew of men Is now
extending this ditch.
Mooee at Ashland
A large number of local Moose at
tended the big time at Ashland last
night. About forty attended from
here and three were Initiated, the new
ones being I P. Miller. Perry Gun
ning and James IJum. The Initia
tion was staged by a team from this
place. After the Initiation a btg feed
was spread, at which M. I Opdycke
acted as toastmaater. A danre was
given and all report an excellent
time. The next Joint meeting will be
held here the 17th ot this month.'

Curley Wilson a two-bagger, all
producing runs. As the game wore
on. Grants Pass showed life, and
the farther they went, the better they
played.

have been killed Sunday night In a
dash with negro troops of the Tenth
V. 8. cavalry between Colonia Dublaa
and Casas Grandes. Thirteen Amer
ican troopers taken prisoner by the
Carrania detachment are said to have
been released afterward.
The negroes were refurntng from a
visit to Casas Grandes when they
were surrounded by a detachment
from the Carrania garrison. The
fight followed.
