Tufts spoke yesterday morning at the Presbyterian church and at the Methodist church at night to large and appreciative audiences. The bill he advocates is to be sub mitted to the voters at the Novem ber election. This measure concerns every busi ness man and workman. As a gen eral rule, It provides for one day of rest in seven for proprietors of busi ness firms and employes of labor. This is the' general principle under lying the bill. It will provide a week ly rest dsy for the 30,000 seven-day workers In Oregon. Those engaged in the continuous Industries which must be kept In dally operation will have one day a week off duty. No definite day is assigned. This rule will apply to such Industries as hotels, restaurants, transportation lines, dally news papers, electric, gaa and water plants, telegraph and telephone, and , all works of dally necessity, Whih the Industry may be kept In continuous operation every day of the year, each employe will Lave one day off In seven. Those who are engaged In lines of business or labor which can stop for one day of the week are to have Sunday as their day of rest, the common American rest day. The bill does not prohibit private work. One may engage in private work for himself every day, but he cannot compel his employe to work but six days out of seven,' except in emergencies. It Is a six-day law and does not limit the number of hours one may work during the six days. The proposed law ts a rest day mea sure, and not a religious measure. It says nothing a'bout how one shall spend his rest day. Star Tonight PARAMOUNT Photoplays VALESKA SURATT supported by Theodore Itolwta and ThotiMia Meighan .
