UUEPHY .1 A number from Murphy remained In the city during the entire session of the state grange. Nearly every one attended one or more of the meetings. W. G. White reports a big crop of strawberries at Falrvlew and that they were not damaged by the hard frosts of last week. The eighth grade examinations for the Murphy and Laurel Grove schools were given at the Murphy school ouse. This week finishes the term of nine months school for this district The teacher. Miss Hague, leaves Im mediately for her home In California, The state grange baa come and gone and all who attended express themselves as instructed and pleased with the workings of that body. Msny pleasant acquaintances were made and old friendships renewed. Mr. Edwards, who lived at Murphy veara aao. was a prominent delegate. Mr. Stewart, ' who married Fred Knox's sister; Mr. Stone and wife, relatives of the Elmer Brown family. remained over until Monday and are so well pleased with our valley that they intend to come here to live. The Commercial club surely did a wise thing when they sent the Invitation to meet here, as every grsnger waa loud in their praises of this beautiful southern Oregon, and had we had our usual sunny warm weather the whole delegation would no doubt have re mained. Many signified their lnten tlon of disposing ot their property and returning here in the near future to live. ' T Gene Hayes and Miss Grace Hague drove over to Kerby Sunday evening with Miss Hague's siBter, who teaches In the Kerby school. M. M. Alnsworth is driving horses now, having badly damaged his auto on one of his campaign trips. The candidates dance was a big success. Quite an imposing feature was the grand march, led by all the candidates. Mr. "and Mrs. W. C. Young drove down to Ashland Sunday with their son In his car. Mrs. Barnes, who has been in the hospital in Grants Pass for eome time, has returned home and is im proving slowly. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Riley have moved Into the city and are located In the north part of town. Miss Bertha Coats came over from Leland, where she is teaching, to at tend the candidates dance Saturday evening, returning Sunday.
