BALKS AT BONDS Medford, April 18. Steps towards the calling ot a special election to vote bonds amounting to $300,000 (or the building of a railroad to the Blue Ledge district received a Jolt at a private meeting ot the city conn ell Monday night with the Commer cial club committee when Dr. J. M Keane stampeded the council and left that body unable to reach any de cision on exsctly what they were go ing to do. The Commercial club committee, after debating the Issue for an hour, left the counoilmanlc body to their own thougnts, after the council's announcement that they would make their final decision to night at the regular meeting. Councilman Keene Is credited with the statement that he did not think the proposition amounted to any thing, and that he was opposed to It The attitude of part of the council, In the face of the sentiment for a spe clal election, comes as a surprise. The tentative agreement was framed as the council wanted it. . It was gen erally supposed that there would 1e no difficulty in getting the issue be fore the people, and the deadlock of last night comes as a surprise. If the council turns down the spe cial election call at the meeting to night, members of the Commercial club say that a mass meeting of cltlxens snd property owners will be called to express their sentiments The attitude of the city fathers has caused considerably bitterness, upon the grounds that the responsibility rests with the people, not their ser vants, whatever their personal views may be. As a last resort the people have the right to ask the courts for an order compelling the calling of an election. SEATTLE PHYSICIAN DOES niG noozK nrsiNEss Seattle, April 18.
