That the loss of Tris Speaker, erstwhile outfielder of the Boston Red Sox and now A member of the Cleveland Indians, will have a decided effect upon the confidence of the world's champions, was the opinion of Ty Cobb, expressed to the United Press today. "Every one knows that the Red Sox outfield was the greatest defen sive aggregation in history," said Cobb. "Speaker was more than one of this trio. His presence and, his ability in covering ground helped the pitchers make good. I can truthfully say that he robbed ns of many games by catches that would have been safe without him there. Hiss loss to Bos ton is immeasurable. "The American league race, I think, will be the closest In many years. It Is toss up between De troit, the White Sox and the Red Sox. "Our club is greatly Improved. Last year it was a coming club it had many youngsters who were inexperi enced. Our pitchers aho look bet ter." ; ' When asked whether he would bat as high as Benny Kauff, the Tiger star laughingly said: .
