The downpour of rain for the past
week has removed the great tody of

Quite a good deal of snow remains

for auto travel. At any rate, Marvin
and Roy Jordan have each come

James Tuffs arrived in town on
Wednesday from Grants Pass. He
traveled part of the way by railroad,
part ot the way on foot, part of the
way by team, and part ot the way by
auto, bis son Rex meeting him at
Selma with the auto. . ,
Miss Hague was absent from school
one day this week on account ot Ill
ness.' but was able to resume duty
on the day following.
The graduating exorcises held on
Tuesday evening ot last week were
well attended and the class did them
selves and their teacher much credit
With one exception, the program as
previously arranged was carried out
and gave general satisfaction. All
were sorry that Thad P. Wagner wm
not able to appear and address the
class as was advertised. But on ac
count ot a relapse of "grip" he was
unable to attend. The weather was
Inclement and Mr. Wagner would
not have done himself Justice had he
ventured out on that occasion. One
ot the graduates, Llewelyn Akers,
was unable to attend from having
met with the misfortune ot having
cut his ftiot ao as to unfit him for
travelling. We hope he may soon
recover and take his place with the
rest ot the class which entered the
high school on Monday of this week.
The total number enrolled In the
high school for the present year is
now fifteen. This Is encouraging for
the prospects ot the high school. The
outlook for the school Is becoming
better gradually and we hope to be
on the map soon with respect to
school matters.
The grim visitor, death, has been
with us again.
On Tuesday night, the 8th, Mrs.
Jones, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Stone, who came to Kerby last spring
and who, with her husband, wm
spending the winter at the home of
Mrs. Jones' father, was called to the
great beyond.
On Wednesday morning, about Ave
o'clock, John Henry, an old gentle
man whose borne was across the
Illinois river from Kerby about two
or three mllee, passed away. Mr,
Henry had been indisposed for some
weeks and had been staying at the
Union hotel. He seemed to be lm
proving somewhat and was able to
be about more or less, but was found
dead In his room on Wednesday
morning. His watch, who had 'been
with him dnrlng the night, had been
excused for the remainder of the
night and had gone. Mr. Henry has
been a resident here tor about seven
or eight years and enjoyed the re
fined and good will of all. There
are no known relatives on this coast.
Had he lived until March 20, he
would have celebrated bis 72nd birth
day.
Both Mrs. Jones and Mr. Henry
were burled on Thursday In the
I. 0. O. F. cemetery.
