Cn Told of Forest Service- Forest Superintendent Macduff Igave a most interesting address upon the work and operation in the forest service, giving new light to his bear ers upon this interesting feature of Uncle Sam's activities in the west. THAI COME TRUE Judge John Twohy is an optimist He knows that good things happen, for he has had a very large part in bis eventful and successful life in making things happen. He Is also something of a dreamer. But more than that, he makes dreams come truo. Today the Judge was the center of a little group on Sixth street, and the fur-lined coat that had been brought down from the north with him looked a bit out of place reflecting the balmy rays of Rogue valley sunshine. The coat was a reminder of Spokane, and the Judge told of how Spokane had been placed upon the map, and spoke of the days when that beautiful city was struggling for commercial su premacy Just as Grants Pass is etrug gling today. The Judge can see many features In common between Spokane and the metropolis of the Rogue, and it Is clear to nee as he dwells upon the past of Spokane that he has visions of things happening down here on the Rogue. . "It would mean a whole lot to Grants Pass If the railroad could be hurried through to the coast, and then a line extended up the Applegate to the Blue Ledge mine and another to connect with the Farrish mine, and these mines and those In the Takllma district could be worked to full capa city, wouldn't it?" quoth the Judge. "Sawmills would operate, and farms would produce, and Grants Pass would become a city. "Of course, all that Is Just a dream of mine, something on the order of hot air," continued the empire build er, who, by the way, can not be class ed with those who deal In superheated atmosphere. It may be only a dream. But, you must remember, the Judge Is the kind of a man who dreams dreams and then makes them come true, That Is why the Judge Is an optimist. lie has faith and then he backs his faith up with his work.
