Portland, Oct 21. Two thousand
tons of print paper, consigned to Aus
tralian newspapers and wholesalers,
which are on the municipal docks
waiting to be loaded on a steamer to
day, represents the first shipment of
Oregon paper to the antipodes in
more than a decade.
The paper was aold by the Crown
Willamette Paper company nd the

tho Panama-Pacific exposition, with
tho electrical wizard as the central
figure for admiring thousands. '
Music and entertainment, with Just

formaU ceremonies were held, was
packed with people. As President
Moore of tbe exposition presented tbe
wizard of light with a commemora
tive brouze medal Edison was visibly
touched, but simply acknowledged bis
appreciation with a bow of his bead.
Prior to tbe medal ceremonies Edi
son and bis close friend, Henry Ford,
were guests of honor at a luncheon
given by President Moore and direc
tors of tbe exposition.
Edison, accompanied by Ford, was
followed by hundreds of school chil
dren and grown-upa on his tour of
the fair grounds today. High good
humor was evidenced by the Inven
tor as be occasionally stopped to ex
change a word with groups of eager
children.
Tonight Edison and his party will
witness a special fireworks program,
arranged In his honor. Half a ton
of explosives will be 'used and a set
piece representing a mammoth model
of the first electric light Invented by
Edison, surmounted by tbe Inscrip
tion "1879-1915," will be touched
off.
BANDITS CONTINUE TO
WORK IN THE EAST

trade as in the days of western hold
ups, bandits early today followed up
the recent West Shore hold-up by an
attempt to rob the "silk express" car
rying a small fortune In raw silk.
Railroad detectives, however, drove
them off with rifles, while the rob
bers kept up a running fight until
they disappeared in the underbrush.

train after a shell from the Austrian
