"Bulgaria's entrance Into the war is our greatest diplomatic victory." Such was the opening declaration of Count Julius Andrassy, an im mensely inttuenltal Austro-Hungarlan leader, the former Bismarck co worker, In an Interview granted nie today. "The addition ot Bulgaria to our ranks will bring victory to us soon er," he said, "and will hasten the end ot the war. When tbe allies realise they can not break our west ern line, and Russia sees she can not win Constantinople; when Eng land beholds us marching to Egypt, they will understand that It is un wise to continue the campaign and the war will cease." "What was responsible for the Bul garian diplomatic vlctoryT" I asked. "Our military victories over Rus sia," he answered. "So long as the Russians In Uallcla and Hungary were threatening Buda Pest and Vienna, the Balkans were uncertain which was the strongest, but when our offensive against the csar began tbey realised that we were tbe most powerful Then when they saw the Russians expelled from Oallcla and In retreat from Poland and the Cour- land they knew their future was with us. "Bulgaria realised it first. There fore she wss the first to break the status quo. She Is prepared now to join us against Serbls. "This Insures the safety of Con stantinople. It will make Serbia's defeat easier snd It will open com munication between Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria and Turkey. Thus the strength of the central powers will extend through Europe, from Hamburg to Persia. "We will have our enemies safclj on two sides, while our strength will be undivided." He paused a moment and smiled. "It was a comical step they took In landing troops In Greece," be con tinued. "England began the war with the declaration that she is the protector of little nations; now she Is violating a little nation's neutral ity. . She may have expected to ac complish a coup d'etat by it, but If so she failed. The only thing now left Is for the allies to wlthdrsw with their troops. "What will Americana say when they read what the allies did against Greece? Isn't the situation there the same as with Belgium? "Bulgaria has the best equipped military eatsbllshment in the Bal kans. Her entrance Into the war means that an entire new army Is on the side of the central powers. The allies realize this or they never would have taken the fateful step they did against Greece." To a question as to whether the Bulgarian development might pre vent a winter campaign to bring the war to a speedy end, Andrassy re plied: . ."It is possible, but why prophecy? Our offensive against Serbia has hardly .begun. When It is well under way, if nothing halts It, the central powers will have through communi cation from Ostend to tbe Persian gulf, and perhaps to Egypt" "What is the situation In Austria Hungary?" I asked. "The people now believe victory near," he answered. "While tbe Russians threatened Buda Pest and Vienna, they were naturally uncom fortable; but the great Russian de feats and our latest diplomatic vic tory has aroused enthusiasm. The whole situation in our country Is good." MYSTERY SURROUNDS KILLING BY MINISTER " The Children's Hour Protect the children from the draughts. , , .
