It is noticeable that many who formerly indulged in expensive gift-making, have this year con fined. themselves to something use ful and inexpensive. : , ' -Ji now appears that the motor extension into Washington county is assured. Let it come, Hillsboro -is here first. Hillshorn wants it to "come, as it will sometime. Keep your faith and your feet in Hills boro. This town has the best bus iness lioiwes, neatest and cosiest residences, best all-round improve ments, and best business men in the county. As for our fair sex well the whole county is noted for pretty women this place has more of them, only on account of its population. .. . A government generally has all it can reasonably do to keep its treasury with a balance on hand, and can hardly go into the loan business. If it loan on realty it may as well instruct the treasurer to hang out the 3-ball sigiij and loan on personal effects, for the owner", of such property should have equal rights. How would the national capitol look with such a ssign neatly gilded hanging be fore its main entrance. .However those people who are strictly onto their," jobare not stopping at ask ing'the government to loan money but are sending in requisitions for a team, tools and a hired man. There is a great lesson to be learned from close observation, in dustry has always a reward, whether or not the reward may be squandered immediately after. Communism, if all people were in-, dustrious, would be ideal. But if all were laboring tor one fund, there would be those who would shirk their dutv the drones. ' :Iit well regulated hives, apiarists tell us that the drones ure annually destroyed. Drones always exist. Every community has them, and they are generally the first to com plain. When there are no such creatures, and nil mankind is per fect, the object of building a uni verse will have been discovered. The concentration wealth is a ' subject thatjhas vexed all political economists since the days of Adam Smith. Wealth has purchased nine tenths of all legislation for many decades. But legislation is not all that pours wealth into, capitalistic coffers ex tra vaga nee, until rift, tin providence all these i things do much to start the money c the country towards monopolistic cent! ters. Reasonably speaking, the man who has lived prudently for a number of years is not suffering from the present hard times. It is the man who labored and lived be yond his means. This nation, as a whole, is full of this class. No one disputes this. And while the country is struggling for a more equal monetary law, the citizens should help the reform by looking to home for leaks . , -, No nation en h afford to go into n banking btiRinees. National gov ernment should be so simple that it would r admit of no ambiguity. A government should only be in a banking business sufficiently to pay its running expenses, with here and there internal improvement. To loan money to farmers on real security, will create a condition confusing in the extreme. In the first place, with" a proper monetary system no farmer would need to borrow. The man who has but money enough to make a partial piiynieHfc;on;.:a piece of property should not buy and encumber the same with a mortgage,, for it is the best but a speculation, und in many cases ends disastrously.
