compound for spraying purposes,
containing turpentine, yesterday
morning, the latter ignited from
csimp cause unknown, and his hands

consequence. John is now caring
for his own personality, regardless
of the urgent spraying of his orch
ard, at the present time.
The old Strukins cabin, located
above the McConnell place, caught
fire last evening and was totally
consumed. It was unoccupied and

a benefit, than a loss, to the owner
in being destroyed. The origin of

A tramp peddler became obnox
ious to the patrons of one of the sa
loons here last week owing to over
indulgence in booze and abusive
language. Alter a short mix-up
with one of the boys present he
hied away to a surgeon's office for
repairs for a badly torn lip, and
other injuries. When last seen he
was making his way to the depot,
as the north lound train arrived.
An epidemic of the mumps has
made its appearance in the region
of Middleton, a number of cases!
being reported K. C. McCollum.
the bookkeeper at the Middleton'
sawmill, has been .xm fined to his
room several days under the treat-1
ment of a physician, for the disease. '
The majority of people, however,
recover without but little medical !
treatment.
Fed Thieves Snake Cfias.
At Rising Sun, Md., recently,
robbers enjoyed a feast of fried
snake eptis in the barn of Henry
Surkens. The nitfht previous
thieves had emptied his feed
boxes, and. desiring to punish
the suspected intruders, Burkens
spread an invitation broadcast
that, if they would return that
night he would not only provide
food for their stock, but include
a supper for themselves.
In sawing down an old tree,
early in the week, I'.urkens found
nine snake eggs and packed them
away in cotton, intending to pre
sent them tolthe Philadelphia
Zoological Garden. Before retir
ing he partly filled the feed box,
and, frying the snake eggs, made
them into sandwiches, which he
w rapped into a napkin and placed
on top of the feed. The follow
ing morning me ieetl Dox was
empty and crusts of bread on the
floor showed the lunch had been
eaten.
