The horrible crime of Ab Hem bree, the Sandlake murderer, is still fresh in the minds of every one in Oregon who reads the pa pers. He murdered his wife and daughter and then set fire to the shack he called home in hopes of destroying1 all evidence of his guilt, but human bones were found in a cookstove in the ashes after the fire, and no one who knows Hembree about his old home doubts for a moment that he is guilty of the murders, as well as other crimes. Yet he has been paroled and permitted to roam at large, while it is known that he ha3 said he would shoot every man of the jury that convicted him. A Tillamook spe cial of the 16th 6ays: The people of Tillamook county are highly indignant at Governor Chamberlain because he paroled Ab Hembree, the Sandlake mur derer, who murdered his wife and daughter and then set fire to his house. The most damaging evidence against Hembree at the trial was that skull bones of hu man persons were found in stove after the fire. As Hembree, before being tak on to the penitentiary, made sev cral threats that he would shoot some of the witnesses in the case whenever he got out. there is li able to be trouble, for the wit nesses in question are preparing for emergencies. It seems to be the general opinion that Hem bree should be arrested again and placed on trial for killing his daughter, if this can be do but there is some doubt whether it can be done until Hembree has nerved his time or is pardoned. Hembree is considered a danger ous man to be caroled. i.eiore the jurymen left the ' jury-box, 11 of them were con vinced that Hembree committed the murder, but one juryman, B. C. Hadley, held out for acquittal and a compromise verdict was ar rived at When the jurymen were being chosen. Deputy Dis trict Attorney Cooper objected to B. C. Hadley, informing District Attorney McNary that he would hang the jury, but at the time ' McNary thought differently and allowed him to serve. There are those ready to swear to a com plaint against Hembree for al leged murdering his daughter if it can be done.
