The strongest argument the Trohibitionists ever have is a drunken man reeling along the street or coming out of a saloon. Remember this. The drunken man is an argu ment that every man, woman and child notices as they pass by. Fool he may be, but no wise man ever found as good a weapon to use against the saloon. Why do the saloonkeepers sell to men who are intoxicated? Most of them do not, it is true, but when they neglect to com plain against the ones that do the whole business suffers. Make sure of one fact The drunken man s money is no good, It is tainted. More than that, it is ioison. It iHtisons the public mind, and to take this money will cost you dear. The drunken man's money has cost the liquor trade of America millions ot dollars. It has laid a cross of unjust laws and crown of persecution on the && loon man. Stop taking it. -The Liberal. In a paper read recently before a woman's club in the east some val uable don'ts that met with the ap probation of newspaper men every where were listed. Among them were the following: Don't come to the newspaper of fice Thursday with something that happened on Monday, Come on Monday. t Don't come at two minutes of 3 o'clock when the paper goes to press at two minutes after. The assas sination of the president of the United States would be resented at that hour. Don't ask a reporter to run a col umn of reprint stuff which may serve your cause, but has practi cally no news value, and then, when you have a good live story, give it to the other paper. Don't go to the managing editor and ask that a legitimate news story be kept out. It would be just as unreasonable and just as in delicate as to go to the banker and ask him to give you money, or to the lawyer and ask him to give up one of his caes. A newspaper is a business enterprise. When you ask it to keep out news you ask it to injure its own business. Don't say "I can't understand why the papers make so many mis takes." If you have ever been in the business you would say instead, "I think it one of the miracles of the age that newspapers can do that amouut of work under that amount of pressure and make so few mistakes.
