W. W. Marsh, a native son of Wash
ington county, and a candidate for the
ollice of County Judge of this county,

of age. Judge Watson has been
Chief Justice of the Supreme Court
of Oregon, and is a lawyer of high
standing. Afier his admission to
the bar, he practiced law at Jack
sonville, nnd iluii removed to Port
laud, where lie has .-irce lived and
practiced his prolessimi.
Judge Watson has never jieeu in
favor with the corporations, and he
has always been identified as trying
to secure the tights of the people
from the railroad companies. He
assisted in securing the passage of
the law relating to negligence,
which he yet considers as not fully
protecting the rights of tfie injured.
The further object which Judge
Watson wishes to accomplish is to
compel railroad and other compan
ies to whom lands have been grant
ed by the United States to carry out
the terms of the grants, many of
which contain the provision that
Watson, candidate j the land granted shall only be sold
to actual settlers in quantities not
to exceed 160 acres and for a price
not to exceed $2.50 per bctc
There are millions of acres included
in these grants, a very large propor
tion of which is within the state of
Oregon.
Judge Watson has given atten
tion to this matter for many years,
and has concluded that a substan
tial wrong exists which should be
righted for the benefit ot the people.
Judge Watson has never been iden
tified with the corporations, but on
the contrary has been found repre
senting persons in opposition to
them.
He compelled the railroad com
pany to pay its taxes to Jackson
county.
Judge Watson is a man in llie
prime of life, and it is withiu his
power and his firm intention to se
cure the people in their rights if
he is honored with nomination and
election. He is on the tight side
of all the great public questions now
being discussed.
