Huston, the people will have a most worthy representative in congress, says the Koseburg Spokesman, and adds : "A man of strict Integrity and loyally devoted to the interests of the people of the state, be will be in a pOHition to serve the people well and . faithfully. A vote for him at the direct primary will be a wise action. There is none of the grand stand plays, no great or impossible promises; nothing but the strictest business. He promises, if elect ed, to be a representative of the whole state. He caters to no man, men, ele ment or section, but will, with that ability and loyalty he shows in all his personal affairs, attend strictly to the business of his office. Almost every passenger train from the Kast is followed by a section bearing to tins lavored country people in search of permanent homes, and this large travel will continue while the low railroad rates continue. These people are com ing from the Dakota, Minnesota, Wis consin, Iowa and Nebraska. They are coming to escape the cold weather, the cyclones and storms which are prevalent in the slates east and south of us both summer and. winter. To the worthy man Oregon extends a hearty welcome, anu here the stranger will find peace, prosperity and plenty. To those look ing for homes, The Independent wishes to say: Examine every section of the state carefuly, but before you close a deal come to Washington county the Banner county in Oregon and you will cry, as many others have cried, "Eu rekal" And here you will stay. a we notice that II. M. Cake, of Port land, has announced himswlf a candidate for United States senator on the repub lican ticket. "I suppose the statement that Oregon i out of debt i no longer considered news," remarked State Treasurer Chas. Moore to the Portland Journal, but I will tell you something that perhaps may interest you. A far a I know Oregon ia the only state la the Union to day which practically dot not owa a dollar and never bad a dollar of bonded indebtedness. However, when I make the latter statement I do so with a slight reservation. 'Once upon a time,' a tb fairy story goes, there was an Indian war in the northwest, and the state needed money. Bond were issued, the proceeds of which were used to prosecute the war. The bond were outstanding such a short length of time that it is hardly fair to charge them against the financial recnrd of Oregon. Excepting that one time the atat haa practically always been out of debt. Once in a while a few warrant will get the better of us for a month or so but there have always been fund coming in to meet the outstanding obligation. That is a record which I do not think can be equalled by another state in the Union.' In the springtime you renovate your house. Why not your body?
