Mitchell's utterances on the floor of the

claimed him guilty, and that verdict
uiUHt stand until removed, if it ever la,
by a higher court. Uuilty or innocent,
this war against the lumber thievea it
all right and should be pushed to a fin
ish until every man guilty with crime
is made to suffer, no matter bow high
be may stand in social, financial or na
tional fame. One thief is no better than
another. If there is any difference, the
smaller should be given the preference.
Mr. Mitchell has done much for Oregon,
thousands of people have bad faith in
him, and even now, in the face of the
verdict of twelve men, it will be
hard to convince his friends that be is
really guilty of an intended crime.
