The time for the registration ol voters is past, and those who have not availed themselves of the op jgirtunity will be required to pro ttuce six men, not particularly of unquestioned veracity, but some who have acquired a title to some jHirtiou of this earth's surface to swear to their qualifications as vot ers. There has been a motley combin ation who have Iktii dealing out nostrums and nonsense to the pub lic for several nights. The receipts seem to be satisfactory, as there seem to lie no cessation in the al lurements and the gilt of continu ance seems to be the one thing necessary for the laying of the Inundation for a fortune. M. II. Henderson is just taking his engine up to the rock quarry to crush rock for the county roads. We understand that the county court has agreed lo furnish all the rock that the jieople will volunteer to haul. That is business. The soil in this country absorbs too much water to make a good founda tion to travel on. We expect that there will be a giand republican rally the 25th at the city park in this city. He sure to come. Albeit Hunning, our enter prising livery man, is building a high board fence around his hall block in the rear of his barn, and it is sale to conclude that he will not be troubled with either his own or his neighbor's chickens, ami will dways be ready to accommodate the public with good rigs at reason able rates. Governor Ialollettv, o Wiscon sin, recoinmeiidedhi.nl state to adopt the Direct Primaries system. The Wisconsin, a leading paper of Mil waukee, endorses the system as fol lows: "There is 110 section of Governor I.aFollotte's message which will commend itself to more general ap proval than his discussion of the I rimaiy election principle. It is clear, strong ami emphatic, and to many minds will apjiear conclusive. The governor covers every con sideration, ami states me case so clearly in favor of a primary elec tion law that sensible jK-ople will hesitate to oppose his conclusions. Governor I.al'ollette is right in what he states that when jeople make their own nominations independent ofcaucusses and conventions, and select for office the jiersons w hom they nominate, Ihe United States will Ik? a more jerfect republic than at and era in its past history. 1 1 Governor I.aFolletteo can inaugu rate this reform and make it work satisfactorily, he will Itectune one ol the benefactors of the nation."
