Mr. Bath, of Minneapolis,
Minn., a neswpapcrman of twenty
years' experience, has bought from
the Hillsboro Publishing Company
the Hillsboro Independent and it
plant, acquired the liases formerly
held by Nlr. French, an I after this
issue will edit the paper. He is mak
ing additions to its mechanical equip
ment to bring il thoroughly up to
date, is a competent printer and has
proven by his past success his ability
to publish a newsy nnd successful
newspaper. Of course the "Indepen
dent" will be Republican and con
tinue the official organ of the Rcpub
lie an party in ibis county, but it will
also be active in every good work for
the upbuilding of its field. Mr. Bath's
family will make their home in Hills

ticular representatives.
No other candidate for the county
clerkship is so well qualified to satis
factorily fill that exacting office as J.
W. Morgan, and this statement will
not be gainsaid by his rivals or most
active opponents. No county in Ore
gun has had its clerical work better
lone than Washington County, when
Jim Morgan was attending to it, and
no man is more accommodating or
has more or warmer friends. The Re
publican party will act wisely and
strengthen its ticket by putting on
J. Morgan as its candidate for
clerk, and indictations now point to
that result being accomplished with
liitle opposition. Certainly such ae
tii m would lie creditable and show the
convention wanted to put the best
man for the place, in office.
Multnomah's primaries were more a
ratification of the Mitchell regular
Republican ticket than a contest so
decisive was the majority. The re
sult probably means that ex-District
Attorney T. J. Clecton will be joint
senator, and his candidacy will be wel
comed in Washington county.
