TheOregoii Condensed Milk Com pany of hlch Dr. J. P. Tamiesie Is presidcot, is desirous of enlarging their plant for they already have more orders lb in they ran All. The doctor would like to put lu a 173,000 plant but tills he cannot do unless he has the co oiMiralion of the farmers. He ptoiMXes to have the farmers take stock arid pay for it either by rash, but more preferably by furnish ing cows, this will guarantee the milk which will he required to run the plant. A pUut of this klu'd should have from ISO ,000 to 200,000 pounds of milk a d y aud the stork to furnish this In a radius of five mile would enrkh llillsboro a great deal. It is suggested by some that Hillshnro should luruish a suitable piece of ground for the plant, but Dr. Tameisie says If his Ideas are carried into effect the stock holders can have the plant at the place they may decide but of. course it would be more preferable on the rail-road. Dr. Tamiesie has an agreement with the company of which bo bought his machinery that ho can put in a larger plant within a year and a half and turn in his old machinery for larger without loss. Itseeius to the Inde pendent that thcjfa'mersand people hero should aaake and not let this opportunity pass for its business. If the plant U enlarged It will make its own cans, thus employ lug a large force of men. Just stop and think what it would mean to llillsboro to j have a pay roll of 150 or 200 men, and the farmers for Ave miles rail i us I receiving $100 and more every mouth. Our population would Increase doubtless In two years. Of course this plant will Increase to this proposed capacity lu ten years but we see an opportunity now; the company can't fill its orders; it manufactures a product that does not sKll. A large plant could furnish cretin to Alaska, Hononlula, and countries on the other side of the Pacific. A guarantee of 10 per cent on money jn vested will be given. Dr.Tameisie will not make anymore by Increasing the plant lor he will be on an equal fooling - with every farmer drawing his dividend in proportion Jo the number of cows he keeps. Now farmers put your shoulder to the wheel and enjoy a little prosperity. . The West Side & Surburban Rail way Company advanced a step In its path to the long sought for city franchise. By an ordinance intro duced by Zimmerman the company Is granted the right of way on First street from JilTcrsui to Couch, to Twelfth, to Marshall, to Twenty fifth, to li vt j y, thence west to the Cornell road, to Twenty-ninth, to Quimhy, to Thirly-llrst across Fall from Quimhy to Pettygrove, to the Cornell road, thence west of St. Vin cent's Hospital, along Melinila, Ade laide, El ward, Jeiriy mid Shaltuck avenues and Linden, Filbert, Cros, Ceilar, Ariel, Sutler, Alexander and Juniper Htreets, King's Heights, aloDg the 'mountain slope and the highway which In an extension of Irving avenue to Wood's Addition and acroi-s Irving and Gibson ave nues to the city boundary. A peti tion from property-owners in the First Ward was presented asking that If a franchise were granted It be along Marshal street from the city boundary to Twelfth, t'J Couch, to First and thence to Madisuo. . Ex City Attorney L ing, wtu) appeared for the company, said "hat the ob ject of the petition was to keep the railway off Lovf-joy street. The pro tests ol tho property-owners was un warranted, as the company would occupy only a small part of the street and that .only in order to reduce the grade In making the ascent of the hills.
