ments of tho votes ot ad the counties
in Oregon, which had boon previous
ly prepared by tho several county
clerks and sent to the Stale House.
Tills finished, Speaker Harris briefly
declared George K. Chamberlain to
be duly elected governor of Oregon.
Then, as it was Hearing the noon
hour, the joint convention adjourned
until i!:l"i p. in., when the inaugural
ceremonies would bo re.snn ed.
Promptly at the appointed hour
tho doorkeeper announced, '"The
(iovernor and Uovernor-olect of Ore
gon!" and the retiring governor
marched down the aislo closely fid
lowed by the one who was to be gov
ernor, and the legislative committee,
When all wero sen ted on tiie rostrum,
(Iovernor Geer was introduced by
President Brownell, and at once I e
gau his farewell message. At its
close there was loud cheering, and
Chief Justice Moore proceeded to
briefly administer the oatli of office
to Mr. Chamberlain. Tho new gov
ernor then brgnn his initial message
to the lifglHhture. At its close he
sat down and, amid rounds of hearty
applause, shook hands with ex-Gov
ernor Geer. The Joint assembly dis
solved and this inofat Important
event was a thing of the past.

stantly in order. (I'he house lets CO
members, but two are absent1 because
of illness). Toe clerk announced the

temporary speaker. A member
from his seat moved thut his fnvoriti
he chosen. All readily agreed to
this and the temporary speaker took

used. The speaker then culled fur
