ity from the path of strong, orderly,
popular liberty, which, as a Nation,
we have thus far safely trod.
"Yet, In spite of this great di
aster, It is nevertheless true that no
people on earth have surli abundant
cause for thanksgiving as we have.
The past year, in particular, has
been one of peace and plenty. We
have prospered in things uiaterltl,
and have been able to work for our
uplifting in things intellectual and
spiritual. Let us remember that, as
much has been given us, much will
be expected from us; and that true
homage comes from the heart as
well as from the lips and shows it

facturing establishment in all Ore

1000 It was $33,422,303. At the first
epoch, the employees, men, women
and children, were 285 and at the
later date 17233 of whom 1820 were

295 were children under 10 years of
ace. The value of the uianuiaciur-
ed products last year was 110,000,-
637, but flfty years bofor, it was only
2,238,610.
The population in 1850 was 13,294
and tiie per cent, enguged in manu

work. The Increase in the numUr
