The Derry mills of Polk county
have advertised in this county for
bills to furnish wood for a year. The
mill Is a large concern and uses sev

some lime they have been drawing
from forests near the railroad and
each year they go further away.
Little Harold Merryman lingered

he was chilled after which his ail

Hood's birthday. When he went in
to the court house a neatly packed
parcel wan given to him which he

The onion crop in thi section has

ped to market. There remains but
a few acks, 10 to 25 lot. Fair
price were realized and growers are
encouraged to plant larger area next
year. They are further intluenced
to thi since they find it easier to sell
a car load than 10 sacks. Onion are
not keeping well this year thought
to be due to Imperfect ripening last
fall.

The dead body of Koh Cornelius
who had been missing fur a week
was found last Friday morning

deuce of 11. 11. Hall who live a few
mile north of dlenco. The cause ol"

verdict of tho Coroner jury has not

wife I a daughter of Harry Hull.
The young folk with their baby,
aged a year, were visiting then.
Hob had not been well for several
months, being troubled with rheu
matism. The disease had become

and did well, but a tho damp season
came on his ache became unliear-
able aud ho had to leave the woods.
His bodily condition laid heavily ou
his mind. He was last In HillaOoro
on the 10th of December. That day
he went out to Mr. Hall' where hi
wife aud child were. Tliexe he de
votedly loved. On Wediu-sday fore
noon. Iiecember 20, he kissed his
chiltl ami left the house taking the
road leading to Uleneo. . On the
bridge spaning the creek he was met
by Mr. Hail's son, Hob's lrother-in
law. The boy aked him where he
was going. Hob replyed, 'Jtist for a
stroll." Thi was the last time he
was seen alive. Hi continued ab
sence caused great anxiety though it
was thought at first that he mighu
have gone to the logging camp a
thero had Urn some talk on that
topic, but no letter being received
the family of the missing man began
to use the telephone and telegraph.

bridge where Hob wa last seen.
Talking the ninttet over the two men
decided to examine a pasture across
the creek from the house, notexjiect

gone over the mountain toward the
Columbia river. They did hud some
track though they were made days
before. They were encouraged to
follow them. Sometimes they could
see them and again all trace was lost.
Finally a the two men side by side
pushed through the young fir they
came directly to the form they were
seeking but not execting to find.
The body lay at full length on the
ground, alHlonien and chest next the
ewath, face turned so that one side
res t .ii on its cold pillow ami arms
and hands extended along the body.

go evident of a struggle on the
ground after he hud fallen. What
caused his death? It might have
have been paralysis of the heart
caused by rheuiatism. It might
have tieen a quick poison, lr tne

melancholy when the poor man
could not exercise the strong will for
self preservation that most of us
have. .No letters nave leen lounn
throwing light on the matter. A few
scrap of nper were found in the
path that he might have i roppeo,
but these, torn from a cheap tablet
had lain long until they are but little
better that pulp. There are a few
figures reaihtble but no letter of any
kind. The remain were buried iu
Tualatin Plain Presbyterian ceme
tery on Sunday last.

The Henry Tucker house In Bea
verton was burned Monday night so
that what was the oldest structure

The home of Peter Iloseow was
saddened last Wednesday when Mr.
Moscow suffered a stroke of iiarulysis
ol the right side of her Is sly. she
wa in attendance at a meeting of
the Ltdie' Missionary society of the
Congregational church held on the
afternoon of that day at the reshlcuce
of her daughter, Mrs. W. H. W li
ning. Mr. lVoK-ow had a place on
the program of exercises and was
reading her paia-r when it wa ol-
served that her voice wa failing and
her right arm ilropsl ucrvless at
her side, then the reading stopiel.
Iter associate gently led her to a
lounge in an adjoining room and
telephoned for Dr. Hailey. Whtt
had been an assembly of sulidued joy
and gladness was turned to sympa
thetica! sorrow. Thine of the ladies
not required for nurses quietly re
tired aud the before happy home was
left under a dark shadow. When her
husband, Peter Hoscow, wa notified
he hastened to her to take up his
vigil. The atHiction coming so
sudden and uuexiected he wa
prostrated by a nervous shock. The
intensity of this however lasted but a
short time. The attack would not
be considered serious only it is the
second one that ha occurred within
six month. A recovery thi time I
expected tho it may be slower than
before. Hotli patients were much
improved yesterday.
