Deepest Lake In America.
A lake known as tbe Great Sunken
lake is reported to be the deepest lake
in this country, and perhaps in the
whole world. Located in the valley
of the Cascade mountains, about 70
miles north of Jacksonville, Or., this
lake, which is about 15 miles long and
four miles wide, is so deep that its
depth cannot be measured. It is situ
ated so far below the crest of the
mountains that winds cannot reach it,
and its surface is like a sheet of glass.
It is sometimes called the "lake of
mystery.”
