M e a n t im e the S p i r i t of T r u t h W o u ld Com fort Them . B u ffilloV N. Y., - - — One of Pustor Russell’s dis courses here today was from the text: “ In My Father’s (louse a r e many mansions. * * * I so to prepare a place for you. * * * I will come asalu to receive you to My- s e 1 f.” — John xlv, 2, 3. For m o r e than four thousand years before the Savior came, no suggestion had been made re specting any home for humanity aside from this earth. The paradise o f Eden, lost through disobedience, and God's Image In humanity, almost obliterated by sin and death, God promised to restore. The right to life forfeited by Adam for himself and his race, God purposed to restore to all the willing and obedient. But nil these blessings were to come through a Re deemer, the Mediator o f the New Cove nant, the Messiah. Humanity knew not the possibilities o f Restitution, but Israel had the fnct typified in their Jubilee year o f Resti tution, which occurred every fifty years. They also had typical sacri fices o f a l ’assover lamb and Atone ment Day offerings, representing some means by which God justly met for them the requirements o f His own Law. They realized not that this satisfaction o f Justice would be ac complished by the death o f the very Redeemer who subsequently would be the Restorer. Their mlmls naturally dwelt espe cially upon the great fact that Mes siah was to be of Jewish stock; and that Israel was to have the first chance of the choicest blessings in connection with Messiah's Kingdom. As they waited for Messiah and Ills Kingdom, they fondly anticipated their own na tional blessing. Seemingly, they over looked the fact that the blessing would be an individual one, In harmony with the Divine arrangement. They hoped for a resurrection from the dead “ at the lust day,” —in the great Seventh Thousand-Year Day or Epoch, and ex pected it to bring them from the sleep o f death back to earthly conditions. Some o f them hoped for a "better resurrection” than the majority, be cause of their loyalty to God and their willingness to suffer for righteousness; but even these expected to be, not an gels, but men. Was not Abraham him self promised that all the land which he could see should, eventually, be his? W hat could this mean except that he would be resurrected, as an earthly being, to enjoy this promised inheri tance? St. Stephen points out that Abraham never received, in fulfilment o f God's promise, ns much of that land “ as to set his foot upon.” (Acts vti, 5.) Undoubtedly, therefore, the en tire promise o f the land is future. The possession will come to Abraham, and will lie given to his seed, his posterity, after him. H e ave n ly P ro m ise s— “ L ike gels.” Unto An God's plan was allowed to rest ns though forgotten until Jesus began to accomplish another and different work. lie began to ( ail the Bride class from amongst mankind—both Jews and Gen tiles. Without explaining the full de tails, He invited all who desired to be come associated in His Kingdom to take up their cross and follow Him. H e promised them a joint-heirship with Him self in His Kingdom. He told them that those who attain unto that Age and the resurrection, would nei ther marry nor be given In marriage— “ like unto the angels” —sexless.—Luke xx, 35, 30. Xo wonder the Apostles were sut prised! No wonder Nicodemus hesitat ed to endorse something so different front what he had anticipated in the way of blessing: and he came to Jesus by night to inquire further! No wonder the Master's words were perplexing when He said, “ Ye must lie born again!” No wonder Nicodemus. in per plexity. asked about this spirit birth an 1 f >nnd the answers perplexing! Restitution W a it s but N o t Abandoned. The whole matter is plain in the light o f the New Testament teaching. Be fore the time for blessing the world, God Is selecting therefrom a class to constitute the Bride o f Christ, the fait:.ful Little Flock. The Church Is to be associated with Him In blessing the human family with Restitution. But the Bride ■ Inss Itself Is to experience a change o f nature from human t* spir itual.
