7 FOREST GROVE TRESS, FOREST GROVE. OREGON, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 2*». 1!>12. Th a n k fu ln e ss . I am no friend to the people who receive the bounties of Providence without visible gratitude. When the sixpence falls into your hat you may laugh. When the mesaenger of an unexpected blessing takes you by the hand and lifts you up and bids you walk you may leap and run and sing for joy, even as the lame man whom St. Peter healed skipped piously and rejoiced aloud as he passed through the beautiful gate of the temple. There is uo virtue in solemn indifference. Jov is as much a duty as beneficence is. Thankfulness is the other side of merev.—Hcnrv Van Dvke. Sir John Lubbock and Carl Hess, the latter a noted German natural ist, by careful investigation proved that the inole has eyes which are as perfect as those of a horse or an elephant. They are very small op tics, to be sure (only ore millimeter in diameter), but in the matter of reflection and refraction do not dif fer from the normal eyes in larger animals. ----------------- a kind father, guide and protec Resolved, that a copy of these tor, the country a true and loyal resolutions be presented to his citizen now therefore be it. i family, a copy be presented to Resolved by this Post, that we the Post of which he was Past tender the family and friends Post Commander, and a copy de of deceased Comrade our sincere posited in the records of this sympathy in this our great be Post and be it further. reavement and that his last rest Resolved that the charter be ing place shall be kept adorned draped in mourning for thirty “ And God shall wipe with the flag he helped to save, days. away all tears from their eyes.” and he it further, A Beautiful Assort ment of Handsome and Durable Xm&3 Gifts in Silverware.
