Neither does dignity depend on the Prince Albert coat as much as it used to. Almost any sober man can whip a drunken man, and more of them should do it. Even society girls sometimes imagine they are pretty busy. And perhaps they are. It is hoped the women in heav en won’ t wear their crowns as high as they do their hats in this world. The governor o f Connecticut rides a bicycle. Connecticut by the way is an old-fashioned state, where the citizens use snuff and wear square spectacles. Bob Burman is advertised as the person who has traveled fast er through space than any other human being and lived. Which leads us to ask how fast did Steve Brodie travel when he jumped from Brooklyn bridge? When the officers of the shoe machinery trust answers the in dictment returned against them they will doubtless set up the plea that it is a misfit and any how that they been perfectly reasonable in holding up the Prices o f their products. It costs a person nothing to speak kindly o f the town he lives in, and faith in the future comes absolutely free. That being the rase it is strange that so many have only discouraging words for Iheir home town and see nothing but disaster ahead. A man can ®asily beleive that this is going h) be one o f the finest and most densely populated parts o f the country, and is nearly sure to be fulfilled. UNDERTAKING We wish to call the attention o f those veterans who happened to be absent from the Semi-an nual meeting of the'jWashington County Veteran Association held at Hillsboro on Oct. 5, that it was called to order by Pres. A.B. Thomas. The meeting was open ed by prayer by Comrade Haines. A portion o f the forenoon was devoted to chapel services in commeration of the late deceased comrade W. M. Jackson, long time treasurer o f Washington County, Commander o f Ransom Post No. 69 G. A. R. and Chap lain o f this Association, in con cluding these services the audi ence arose and bowed their heads in supplication for a brief time. After a few brief talks they ad journed to the diningroom where the tables were groaning under their load o f good things that only the fertile brain o f the auxilliary can give birth too. The program for the afternoon consisted of songs in German of recent importation and English speeches and good stories. The renedition of a solo entitled ‘ ‘Dropping Out One By One” by the Perine sisters witn piano ac companiment by Mrs. Brown brought tears to the eyes of many and no sweeter strains of music have fallen upon the sons and daughters o f men since the morn ing stars sang together than that rendered by those charming la dies of Hillsboro. The program for the afternoon cannot be dup licated. The veterans that at tempt to cover in their absence by various excuses surely missed County C. C.
