NO. 8
While
Harold Davis, who was working for a
Portland concern clearing some land
for a walnut orchard near Gaston, was
struck by a falling tree, and from the
injuries died at nine o’clock on the
same evening.
Davis’ home was at Port Hope, Can
ada and had been in this country since
June. He sought employment through
a Portland agency and was sent to
Gaston to clear land. He was felling
a large tree and in some manner the
butt shot backwards from the stump
catching Davis underneath. Deputy
Coroner Harding of Gaston made an
investigation but found that his death
was accidental.
The remains were
brought to Limber’s undertaking estab
lishment in this city Sunday and pre
pared for burial. The body will be
shipped today to his relatives in the
east. He was a good young fellow of
24 years and his untimely death is
much regretted by his fellow workmen.
