The appointment of George Haskell
Marsh as clerk of the Federal court in
Portland to succeed Capt. J. A. Sladen
who tendered his resignation and whom
President Roosevelt has recommended
for the retired army list with the grade
of major, brings gladness to Mr.
Marsh's many friends in this city. He
is the son of the late Dr. Sidney H.
Marsh, president of P. U. from 1854
to 1879, and a brother to Wheelock
Marsh at one time local postmaster.
Mr. Marsh is not inexperienced in the
duties he has assumed because fot 16
I years he has served as deputy of the
court of which he now becomes the
chief.
