Eld Ward, of the Ward Lumber Company is having built a building at his lumber yard in which he will in stall a planning mill. He went to Portland Friday and pur chased an engine, a planer, sticker, rip and band saws, and other machinery necessary for a first-class planing mill. The building will be begun at once, and will be 30x80. Mr. Ward states that he has made arrangements with the various mills over the county to furnish him with lumber and has as much as 20,000 per day engaged. The mill will employ at least four men and as many more as the demand for the product increases. He will manufacture all kinds of build ing materials. In the Recorder's Court As announced in The News last week, the inhering of the various school boards over the county met at the court house in Hillsboro, Tuesday afternoon to discuss and devise means of freeing themselves from the dilemma in which they are placid because of the failure of the county court to levy a sufficient tax to carry on the number of months school bargained for. Thirty- five districts were represented and the meeting was organized by choosing H. G. Fitch of Cornelius, chairman, and Mr. Benefield of Greenville, secretary. Many speeches were made along the line of how to cope with the deficiency and what mode of proceedure to take. A committee composed of S. B. Hus ton, C. W. Fitch and ------ was ap pointed to wait on the county court and ascertain if some means, or some plan could not be devised to meet the trouble and thus permit the schools to run their allotted time. Another committee composed of I. jC. Weitzel, Mr. Benefield and ------ was appointed to confer with County School Superintendent Case. It is thought that this course will terminate satisfactorily.
