All were present with the exception of Councilman Stairett, who is visiting in the east. The new bond of E. W. Haines to the city was acted upon and ordered returned to the fidelity company for the correction of numbers. The sidewalks that are in need of re pair were ordered to be fixed. The council also confirmed the ap pointment of Ula Hanna as deputy marshal. The resignation of C. W. McNamer as councilman was read and upon mo tion was'accepted. After declaring the office vacant the council proceeded to elect a new member, when some op position was met with. Councilman Hollinger immediately arose and asked to be excused, whereupon the mayor stated that it was the last business of the evening and requested him to re main. This the Alderman would not do and left the council chamber with out the consent of the mayor. This left but four councilmen to finish up the business and every prospect for a new councilman seemed bright, when Councilman Harris, too, desired to be excused, but with a little persuasion remained and took a hand in the affair. The name of H . J. Goff, the hardware man, was proposed and, there being no other name, h t was elected. Council adjourned. Mr. and Mrs. Wm.
