The Washington County Rural Letter Carriers’ Association held a convention in Hillsboro last Wednesday afternoon. There were seven carriers piesent at the session. O. L. Curtis, of this city, presided and W. H . Boyd, of Beaver ton, was the secretary. A good deal of business was transacted. It was voted to levy a yearly membership fee of fifty cents and to make such other asses ments as will be needed to main tain the organization financially. An invitation was extened to the remain der of the eighteen county carriers to identify themselves with the association. It was also the consensus of opinion that, for the present at least, the asso ciation would not affiliate with either the state or the national organization. Those present at the meeting were: O. L. Curtis, and W. H. Milne, of Forest Grove; J. H. Van Lun, of Cornelius; John Kessler, of Greenville; W. H. Boyd, of Beaverton; E. B. Poole, and H. W. Leuder, of Hillsboro. Some forty members of the local Nebraska colony gave Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hardin a genuine old fashioned surprise party at their home in this city last Friday. All came supplied with baskets filled with viands and delicacies and when the time for the dinner hour came the tables presented a most attractive and tempting appear ance. It was not possible to have all the guests sit together at one time so while the visitors were waiting their turn to the dining room, an impromptu program was rendered, little Blanche Hardin's singing being particularly pleasing. Those present, as far as we can ascertain, were: Prof. G. B. Hardin and family, William Lambert and fam ily, Wilbur Martin and family, Charles Jackson, Mrs. O. Jackson, Will French, Mr. and Mrs. Philip French. Mr. and Mrs. W. Curtis, Mr. Rosa, Alvin Sexton and family. Mrs. A. Brown. Mrs. Ira Bradley, Mrs. J. Taylor, D. L. Stow, Milo Kelsey and family, and John Cline and family. “A man may as well be out of the world as out of Fashion,” if changed to read: “A man out Fashion is out of the World,” might more clearly express a social truth.
