Adkins was thrown open to the recep tion of a small company of invited guests to celebrate the birthday of Mrs. Adkins and little daughter Ethel. After spending many hours in social conversation, music and various games, all were invited into the dining room where they found plenty of oyster soup. After a few more games were played, the company dispersed, all having spent a delightful evening. CORNELIUS. Mrs. H. S. Sturdevant is on the s'c : list. Geo. Wilcox and wife of Indepen dence. visited Cornelius over Sunday. A. S. Hatch has moved into his n:w blacksmith shop on Baseline street. A little son of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Miller has been quite sick for some time. Mrs. Clara Imler, a daughter of Wm. Bennett of this place, visited here over Sunday. Mrs. I. H. Baughman, who has been confined to the house for several days, is much better at this writing. Mr. and Mrs. James Williams of this place, who are visiting in Seattle, are expected home sometime this week. Harry Challacombe, one of the employees of the Base Line Lumber Company, is laid up with a very sore hand. Mrs. D. J. Barrett, wife of the S. P. agent at this place, has been quite sick for a few days, but is better at this writing. Oliver Brand and J. Peasley left Cornelius yesterday for the Columbia Logging Camp, P. D. Elliot accom panied them as far as Portland. Mrs. Jane Murdoff, an old settler of this county and who has lived a long time in Cornelius, has been very ill for several days, but has been taken care of by friends and neighbors, her hus band died several years ago at this place. Lola Higgenbothem died at the home of her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. George Higgenbothem of Cornelius, Oregon, Saturday evening, the 18th of February', 1905, at the age of 14 years, 2 months and 13 days. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Wilkins at the M. E. church, Monday, at 2 p. m. to a large number of relatives and friends. Quite a large number of Woodmen were in attend ance. Interment was in the Cornelius cemetery. The family desires to thank the friends that helped them in their bereavement. Dilley Some of the railroad home for a few days. boys are at Hon. W. K. Mr. Henery's brother, who went to California a few days ago, writes that he is well pleased with that state. A party of four from Dilley went to the Wapato lake near Gaston, on a skating trip, they repo t a good time.
