Ground—No Insurance,
Death of Mrs. Harriet Atwater.
Mrs- Harriet Atwater of Portland,

Kev. T. W. Baldwin, Sunday morning
at the age of 73. She was born in
Cincinnati, Ohio, where her girlhood
was spent, then moved to Bloom:.ngton,
Illinois. In 1895 she removed from
Minnesota to Portsmouth, Ore., where
she resided most of the time until her
death. She had been ill for several
months and the end was hastened by a
paralytic stroke. To mourn her death,
she leaves three children, James L.
Atwater of Dallas; L. H. Atwater, of
Hillsboro and Mrs. Emma Hollister of
Portsmouth. She has three brothers
livinS in Oregon and one sister and
one brother in Illinois. The inter-

Oeo. F. Zimmerman, of the Christian
Church conducted the funeral services

Horse Killed by Live Wire
A singular accident occurred at 5
o’clock last Friday morning when a
horse driven by M. W. Patton and
Frank Bernard, who were on their
way to the mill at Cornelius, was in­
stantly killed by coming in contact
with a live electric wire near the
Nixon residence in East Forest Grove.
An electric light pole had fallen and

with the light wire charging it with
electricity. When the animal fell Mr.
Patton supposed he had stumbled and
applied the whip, when the whip
struck the horse he received a severe
shock. The butt end of the whip
