A big majority in June will have enormous significance. Any majority in November will suffice. Closely connected with national politics also is the election of represen tatives in congress. Hermann and Williamson will be elected, of course; but it is important that their majorities should go towards the highest possible high-water mark. It is the way to assure the country of the earnestness of Oregon for the party znd the cause of which President Roosevelt now is the leading representative. f Not for years, if ever before, have the republicans of Oregon been so generally in harmony as they aie now Factional differences have passed away, with disappearances of the causes that produce ihem. The one thing neces sary is co get out the full vote. Two years ago the republican vote for supreme judge was 49,876, and the plurality was 17,146. The republican vote for the state next month should not fall below 55,COO, and may much exceed that figure— cairying the plur allity above 20,000. The aggregate plurality for representatives in congress should be as large. These results are legimately to be expected, on a full registration and a full vote. Such majorities are due to the country from the people of Oregon. For Oregon has been treated with great considera tion by the republican party and by President Roosevelt. The opportunity of requital will be presented in June. Let us have a full vote.—The Daily Oregonian, May 9, 1904. Oregon's Polilics Two years ago the plurality for Judge Bean was 17,146. That for Judge Moore should be at least 20,000 now. By such majority the republi cans of Oregon should open the presidential campaign. In recognition of his own character, and for what he has done for the state, President Roosevelt is entitled to it. Such ma jority will have its effect upon every part of the country. In the First Dis trict, Representative Hermann de serves and will command the full re publican majority. It is not true that there is any republican opposition to him. Nor is it true that he does not stand well at Washington. He did not agree with the secretary of the in terior, in matters of administration, and therefore was retired from the gen eral land office; but no charges affect ing his integrity in that office or any other have ever been made. In his work at Washington, as Representative, he is painstaking and laborious, and his familiarity with the methods of congress gives him great advantage! No man did more for the Lewis & Clark bill. His plurality in the dis trict can hardly fall below 7000, and ipay be larger. That for Williamson
